Help Your Child
How parents can help their children
Children learn best when parents support their learning at home. We ask you to do this by: -
- Talking to and listening to your child and showing an interest in what is going on in school.
- Reading with your child regularly.
- Playing games e.g. board games to help develop skills in counting
- Supporting school rules and help us to maintain a high standard of discipline in school.
- Supporting school meetings and events e.g. open evenings, concerts, and educational meetings.
- Offering any support that you may be able to give e.g. help in classes, go on school trips.
- Sharing any concerns that you have with us.
- Supporting children with any homework they bring home.
Homework
From the nursery children are encouraged to bring a book home each night to share with an adult at home.
- Year 1 pupils are expected to read with an adult 5-10 minutes a night,
- Year 2 pupils are expected to read with an adult 5-10 minutes a night and encouraged to learn spellings at home and tables(2's,5's &10's)
- Y3-5 pupils are expected to read for at least 15 minutes each night and learn spellings and tables, from time to time they will have other activities to do eg. finding out about a topic.
- In Year 6 pupils will have more homework as we prepare them for Key Stage 2 assessments and secondary school.
If pupils do not do their homework they get behind the rest of the class. Therefore older pupils are sometimes required to spend time in the lunch break making the work up.
