Family Reading

At South Rise we actively promote Family Reading to encourage all our parents to read with their children every night.

Each morning parents and carers are invited to come in to school to choose a reading book to share with their children in the evening.  This encourages a dialogue about books and choices of books between parent and child but also between families.

In Reception we hold a Family Reading Session in school every Friday morning during which parents, grandparents, younger siblings and carers are all encouraged to join us for an informal ‘reading for pleasure’ session.  These sessions are always really well attended and the atmosphere is very relaxed giving parents an opportunity to talk with each other as well as read with their children.  Many new friendships have been forged during these sessions which we hope will be strengthened as the children move up the school.

In Year 1 Family Reading Sessions are held every Thursday morning to continue the good practice established in Foundation Stage.
