Parents

Consultation with parents

We welcome parental involvement in school. There are many areas of school life in which we would be glad of help such as - cooking, reading, sewing, outings etc. There are times when you are particularly invited into school (meetings, functions etc.) but parents are free to contact school during school hours. It is better to make an appointment to prevent waiting. If you need to speak to your child's teacher please do this at the end of the day. Urgent messages can be given to Classroom Assistant's on duty in the mornings or at the school office.

The school has two academic review days during the year. Parents are invited in with their child to meet the teacher, review progress and set targets for the future.

Parents of new entrants have a special individual meeting with the Head and then an opportunity to join us for a Friday Assembly and to spend time in their new class before the children start.

Parents concerns will always be considered and dealt with as soon as possible by the Head and the Staff. If a problem has not been resolved to the parent's satisfaction at school level they are able to take their complaint to the Authority.

Access to records

Progress records - Parents are officially invited into school twice a year to discuss their child's progress. At the end of the school year the report is sent home and parents given the opportunity to comment.

Parents are welcome to come in and discuss their child's progress at other times during the year, by appointment.

Home School Agreement

Before your child starts school you will be given the opportunity to discuss this with the Headteacher. A copy of this is at the end of this booklet with a copy of the school "Behaviour Code" and "Anti Bullying Policy".

School Rules and Discipline

The School takes the matter of discipline very seriously. In the interest of all children we expect the highest standards of behaviour from our pupils at all times. We encourage children to look after themselves and others and to respect the work, feelings, beliefs and property of others. All complaints of bullying are thoroughly investigated. Sanctions such as the withdrawal of playtime privileges etc. are used when the well-being of others is threatened. Occasionally we need to inform a parent if we have a more serious or persistent problem arising from a child's lack of care for himself or others.

Children are not allowed to bring sweets to school and should only bring toys that are allowed for safe play in the playground.

School complaints procedure

1. Informal discussion with the class teacher

2. Informal discussion with the Head or Deputy Head

3. Discussions with Head/Deputy class teacher and parent.

If not resolved satisfactorily the Headteacher will give you information on how to make a formal complaint to the Governing Body or the London Borough of Greenwich.

Special Educational Needs and Inclusion

The School has a full-time Assistant Head responsible for Special Educational Needs and Inclusion; she is available by appointment to meet with parents to discuss any concerns. A copy of the school's Special Needs Policy is available in the office. We recognise that a proportion of the children in our care may at some time have a special educational need. This may be short or long term. Wherever possible the needs of these children will be met within school by working alongside their peers in mixed ability groups supported by the class teacher's planning. Occasionally it may be necessary to withdraw children from the classroom to work within a small group or on an individual basis. When we have a particular concern about a child their name is put on the Special Needs Register, after consultation with parents.

The Special Needs Code of Practice has five stages: -

School Action - Children supported with I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan) using school resources

School Action Plus - Children needing to be referred to or receiving support from external agencies

Assessment - Children undergoing Full Assessment

Statement - Children with a Statement of Special Educational Need

Children with a statement of special educational needs will be fully Integrated within school if appropriate. The Educational Psychologist visits the school regularly to support us in our work.
