Admission Arrangements

The Nursery

If you are interested in a Nursery place for your child please contact the school when your child is 2yrs old, although the length of time on a waiting list is not a criteria for admission to the Nursery.

The Nursery class has 60 part-time places (30 morning and 30 afternoon places) and 20 full-time places. Children have to be three before the beginning of the term in which they are admitted. Nursery education is not statutory. The school admits pupils, using the Greenwich criteria i.e.: -

1. the age of the child

2. nearness to school

3. special educational & health needs supported by a letter from health visitor, doctor, social worker

Children are admitted as soon as possible after their 3rd birthday and you will be contacted the term prior to admission. Full-time places are allocated when they are available according to social, medical and educational need whilst maintaining a balance in the group. Not all children will be able to have a full-time place before starting Primary School because there are not enough full-time places.

The Primary School

Children are normally admitted in:-

• September if their 5th birthday falls between 1st September and the last day of February
• January if their 5th birthday falls between 1st March and the 31st August

Parents wishing to apply for a place should complete the application form obtainable from the school office or the Education Office in Woolwich. All applications for reception classes are dealt with by the Local Authority If there are more applicants than places the Local Authority uses the following criteria in allocating places: -

1. children with siblings already in school

2. nearness to school (or pupils for whom their nearest school is full)

3. special educational & health needs supported by a letter from Health visitor, doctor, social worker

Further information can be found in the booklet "Choosing a Greenwich Primary or Nursery School" available from all Greenwich Schools. Up to 90 children are admitted each year. If we are not able to offer your child a place in the Primary School you have the right to appeal. Further information is available from the school office. If we are able to offer you a place in either the Nursery or the Primary School you will be contacted and invited into school to meet the Head.
